Now, this is something I can talk about wholeheartedly! If you don’t already know, I work at Bugis five days a week and with the company of Neu Entity, we have gone around Kampong Gelam Area’s nook and cranny. We indulge ourselves in Nasi Padang and it serves as our fuel to our productivity. Okay, I’m exaggerating a little BUT Nasi Padang has been part of the Singaporean culture for the longest time I know and the freedom to pick your own ingredients is one of the key factors of it. Now, usually I don’t rank my blogposts but since I am die-hard fan of Nasi Padangs, things have gotten serious.
Note: Preferences are subjective and these are merely my own opinion. To each their own lads.
1/ Sabar Menanti II
Firstly, we got Sabar Menanti which is my absolute favorite. Out of all the dishes that is offered in your traditional Nasi Padang, my favorite dish would be Sambal Goreng Pengantin and the Sambal Goreng Pengantin that Sabar Menati offers is extraordinary. It’s the right level of spiciness and when it is accompanied with the Kuah Lemak Ayam, it truly brings it to a different level of taste. Aside from that, the rice is also fluffy and fragrant! The Begedil is crispy on the outside but soft inside as well. Truly 10/10, would dine here forever.
2/ Rumah Makan Minang
Minang and Sabar Menanti are actually quite pricey and not really light on the wallet but it’s always nice to pamper yourself and eat quality food. Be warned though, MInang is known to be packed for lunch hour. However, they do ensure that you leave with a full stomach and a wide grin!
3/ Warong Nasi Pariaman
In all honesty, I have only eaten once at Pariaman and it was after lunch hour. So, they were left with little to no choices. With that in mind, I still found myself enjoying the dishes and the beautiful, fluffy rice. I would definitely return here again to try out more of their dishes and fully encapsulate myself in their flavors. It only makes sense that they are third because they are able to impress me with what they had at hand. Price-wise, I’m not entirely certain because I had my wonderful colleague to treat me. Hehehehe!
4/ Hajah Maimunah Restaurant
Hajah Maimunah offers both individual eating (nasi padang) and communal eating (dulang)! In my opinion, I think that I have slightly different tongue compared to the rest of the people in the office as they think that Hajah Maimunah belongs somewhere slightly higher. So, I would like to reiterate that people’s preferences are different and taste is subjective. You can ask Chef Bob himself and he’ll agree!
5/ Mihrimmah Restaurant
Now, this is weird. Although Mihrimmah is ranked last, the crew and I still eats here often. In fact, everyday! This is because I actually think that their begedil is my favorite out of all stores. In addition to that, I also like their teh ais and my occasional indulgence in their prata plaster. I think that the consistency that they put out is very admirable and worth your venture there.
I hope you all will try out the food that I have listed and if you agree or disagree, I respect that. To each their own. With that, enjoy your late night rides with the homies and wish your vibe forever be immaculate.
